Today we are defining a Houngan Makout, as there are different types of Houngans - which we will further explain as we continue on with our series.
A Houngan Makout is a person that has been chosen by the Lwa of his bitasyon, with the capacity to obtain a certain level of spiritual knowledge that the ancestors have passed down. With this knowledge, the Houngan is able to perform ceremonies and rituals to honor the ancestors of that bitasyon. He is also able with this knowledge, to command the Lwa or Spirits to accomplish many things with precision.
A Houngan Makout has a reference, he has a bitasyon and roots.
